It could be worse

"It could be worse."


   We've all heard those words.


"It could be worse."


   They're right.


A child lying broken and bloodied on a hospital bed. The parents that broke her ribs sit in the waiting room crying fake tears as she suffers.

A young man twisted in pain, unable to stop his own blood from running away down the gutter.

An old man deprived of heat, and care, falling deeper into a cold and empty sleep he will not wake from.

An infant, shaken to death, stone cold on the mortuary slab.

A field in Belgium, devoid of life and pitted like a moonscape. Now a meadow o poppies and memories.



"It could be worse."


   It has been before.
